The Ultimate Guide to Finding Your Perfect Bra Size

Learn how to measure yourself correctly, understand bra sizing, and use our calculator to find a comfortable and supportive fit.

Studies show that a vast majority of women are wearing the wrong bra size. An ill-fitting bra can cause discomfort, back pain, poor posture, and skin irritation. The Bra Size Calculator is designed to help you find a much more accurate and comfortable starting point for your bra size journey.

How to Measure Yourself for a Bra

To use the calculator, you'll need a soft measuring tape and two key measurements. For the most accurate results, it's best to measure while wearing a non-padded, non-wired bra or no bra at all.

  1. Band Size Measurement: Wrap the measuring tape snugly around your ribcage, directly underneath your bust. The tape should be level and firm, but not tight. This measurement, in inches or centimeters, is your band measurement.
  2. Bust Size Measurement: Wrap the tape measure around the fullest part of your bust. The tape should be loose enough to not compress your breast tissue but not so loose that it sags. This is your bust measurement.

How the Bra Size Calculator Works

The calculator uses your two measurements to determine your estimated band and cup size.

Step 1: Calculating Your Band Size

The calculator takes your under-bust (ribcage) measurement. Traditionally, if this number is odd, you add 1 inch to make it even. This result is your band size. For example, if you measure 31 inches, your band size is 32. If you measure 32, your band size is 32.

Step 2: Calculating Your Cup Size

The cup size is determined by the difference between your bust measurement and your calculated band size.

Bust Measurement - Band Size = Cup Size Difference

Each inch of difference corresponds to a letter in the cup size alphabet.

Difference (Inches)US Cup Size
Less than 1"AA
1"A
2"B
3"C
4"D
5"DD or E
6"DDD or F
7"G

Example Calculation:

Let's say your measurements are:

  • Under-bust (Band): 31.5 inches (rounded to 32) -> Band Size: 32
  • Bust: 36 inches

Calculation: 36 inches (Bust) - 32 inches (Band Size) = 4 inches

A 4-inch difference corresponds to a D cup. Therefore, your estimated starting bra size is 32D.
