What is the ACFT?
The Army Combat Fitness Test (ACFT) is the United States Army's test of record for physical fitness. It is designed to better connect fitness with combat readiness for all soldiers. The test consists of six events that measure different domains of fitness, including muscular strength, power, speed, agility, and cardiovascular endurance. The ACFT replaced the previous Army Physical Fitness Test (APFT) to provide a more comprehensive assessment of a soldier's physical capabilities.
The Six Events of the ACFT
The ACFT is composed of the following six events, performed in order:
- 3 Repetition Maximum Deadlift (MDL): Measures lower body strength. Soldiers lift a hexagonal barbell for three repetitions at the maximum weight they can manage.
- Standing Power Throw (SPT): Measures explosive power. Soldiers throw a 10-pound medicine ball backward over their head for distance.
- Hand-Release Push-Ups (HRP): Measures upper body endurance. Soldiers perform as many push-ups as possible in two minutes, releasing their hands from the floor at the bottom of each repetition.
- Sprint-Drag-Carry (SDC): A shuttle event measuring strength, endurance, and agility. It involves a 25-meter sprint, dragging a 90-pound sled, lateral shuffles, carrying two 40-pound kettlebells, and a final sprint.
- Plank (PLK): Measures core strength and endurance. Soldiers hold a proper plank position for as long as possible.
- Two-Mile Run (2MR): Measures aerobic endurance. Soldiers run two miles on a flat course for time.
How is the ACFT Scored?
Each event is scored on a scale from 0 to 100 points. To pass the test, a soldier must achieve a minimum score of 60 points in each of the six events.
